The Schools

Hartley Higher Secondary School (Classes VI to XII) and Hartley Public School (L.K.G. to Class V) are an English medium co-educational school in Kolkata. The institution was founded in 1937. To most, 11/4, Lansdowne Road, now known as Sarat Bose Road may sound to be just another address on the busy road. But the quaint old building at this address houses an institution which has been training the minds of young people for over 75 years. It is a treasure house of a wonderful learning experience, if one cares to walk down its memory lane. While adhering to some time tested academic axioms, it has imbibed the new methodology and technology of education in its stride. Age has not withered this grand old lady of over 75 years. She is still spirity as a three year old and ready to go on with great enthusiasm.

The schools aim at imparting education to upgrade students to become future ideal citizens. The focus of the school is to encourage and support children to learn more by observation, perception, experience and integration of a child's physical, mental and spiritual aspects for a complete and life oriented education. The school promotes many co-curricular activities for the students' all round development. The school truly lives up to its motto of "God, Wisdom and Success". 

 

New Directions

The group has also ventured into the arena of Montessori Schools for young learners. Two such schools are operative in Kolkata at Beliaghata and Garcha (opposite Hazra Law College), known as Little Hartley. Several others are planned during the course of this year. The schools follow the guidelines laid out by Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori and characterized by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child's natural, psychological, physical, and social development.

Little Hartley promises to provide every child a home away from home. It portrays the inert qualities of young tomorrow. We believe in bringing out latent talent and potentials of our children. We feel that every child is a winner provided we give them the scope to flower their talent. We have developed syllabus integrated wizard oriented , self learning program and we ensure that not a child is left untouched in this process. Self learning in the key to the natural development of the child.
